How to set up Facebook Conversions API for Shopify, WordPress & Other platforms

If you advertise on Facebook, you know how important it is to track accurate data.
It enables you to better understand the performance of your campaigns, optimise them, and scale your business.

However, privacy laws are making it more difficult to keep track of your customers’ activities. As a result, marketers and online store owners must constantly adapt. The next trick up the marketer’s sleeve is to implement the Facebook Conversions API. This article will explain how to integrate the Facebook Conversions API into your ecommerce store and maintain the most up-to-date data possible.

What is the Facebook Conversions API and why would you want to use it?

Pixel and other tools that help you track web and offline events (your customers’ behavior and actions) from Facebook servers to yours nowadays are probably familiar to you.
However, to continue receiving the data you’re used to, implementing Facebook’s Conversion API is necessary. You can use the CAPI to:

  • Keep track of and measure a wide range of customer information
  • Keep accurate records of events (no data lost due to ad-blocking tools on IOS 14 or Chrome, server or page crashes, etc.)
  • You have complete control over when and what you share.

With new privacy regulations affecting browsers all over the world, tracking the performance of your ads is becoming increasingly difficult.

As a result, you should connect your store’s server directly to Facebook. This will protect your data and prevent any inconvenience, misinformation, or information gaps during the tracking process.

How to Set Up Facebook Conversions API on Shopify

Go to Facebook Events Manager and click on the Settings tab to configure the Conversions API with the Shopify partner integration. Choose a Partner by scrolling down to Conversions API.

When you add the Facebook Pixel to your Facebook channel, it integrates with your online store. A Facebook Pixel can be added when setting up Instagram Shopping, Facebook Shop, or Facebook Marketing, but it is only required for the Facebook Marketing feature. Before you can add a Facebook Pixel, you must first enable data sharing in the Customer data-sharing section.

You can manage your Facebook pixel in the Data sharing settings section of the Settings section of the Facebook channel. In the Customer data-sharing section of your Data sharing settings in the Facebook channel, there is a list of Pixels you’ve created. Click Connect to connect an existing Facebook Pixel, or Create new to create a new Facebook Pixel.

After you’ve added a Facebook Pixel to your online store, check to see if it’s working with Facebook Ads Manager. Learn about how to tell if your Facebook Pixel is working from the Facebook Help Center.

Steps:

  1. In your Shopify admin, click Facebook in the Sales channels section.
  2. Click Settings, and then click Data sharing settings.
  3. In the Customer data-sharing section, click the Enable data-sharing toggle.
  4. In the Choose data-sharing level section select Standard, Enhanced, or Maximum.
  5. Select your pixel from the list.
  6. Click Confirm.

How to Set Up Facebook Conversions API on WordPress

Go to Facebook Events Manager and click on the Settings tab to configure the Conversions API with the WordPress partner integration. Choose a partner by scrolling down to Conversions API.

  1. Select WordPress.
  2. On the next page, check both boxes and click Create Access Token.
  3. Copy the access token and paste it somewhere for safekeeping. You’ll need this later. Click Continue.
  4. Click Download to download the Facebook Pixel WordPress plugin.
  5. Go into your WordPress dashboard and select Plugins and Add New from the left-hand menu.
  6. Select Upload Plugin. Choose the file you downloaded earlier and click Install Now.
  7. Click Activate Plugin.

Copy your Pixel ID from Events Manager. Copy and paste it into the Pixel ID field. Select the checkboxes for “Enable Advanced Matching” and “Enable the Server-Side API to Send Events…” Then, copy your Access Code and paste it into the access token box. Click Save Changes.

Update the plugin. Facebook has been frequently updating the partner integration plugin, so make sure you’re using the most recent version.

Open your website in a new tab to test your Conversions API configuration. Return to the Overview tab in Events Manager. If your configuration is correct, you should see events labeled “Active” with a green dot. It may take a few moments for this to update.

How to Set Up Facebook Conversions API on Other Platforms

You can still use the Conversions API if your ecommerce store is powered by another platform (Magento, WooCommerce, MakeShop, etc.).
Go to your Facebook business manager this time. Then simply follow these simple instructions:

  1. To access the dropdown menu, click the three horizontal lines in the top-left corner of the screen.
  2. Select “Events Manager” from the drop-down menu.
  3. Choose the desired business from the top-right.
  4. Select the appropriate pixel under the “Data Sources” section.
  5. Select the “Settings” tab.
  6. Scroll down to the “Conversions API” section.
  7. Click “Choose a Partner” under the “Set up through a partner integration.”
  8. Select your ecom store’s platform from the list.
  9. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up CAPI on your new platform.

That’s the only thing there is to it. All platform conversions can now be tracked directly from your Facebook account.
If you’re using WordPress, you can install the Pixel Your Site plugin and configure everything manually.
